Welcome to Fifth Grade!
In fifth grade, students, parents, and teachers work together to provide the best Christ-centered education possible. Many opportunities for creative expression are found in all areas of the curriculum. We will have a Google Classroom page which will allow the students to keep track of spelling lists, memory assignments, test dates, and more. It’s an awesome communication tool and I’m looking forward to using it!
Daily practice and hands-on activities prepare students to understand math concepts and master skill, including fractions, decimals, place value, and geometry.
History comes alive with research projects, art activities, and group presentations in social studies, and the students will switch classes daily and be instructed by Mrs. Medalis.
Reading is taught using our Journeys curriculum series and some excellent supplemental novels. We will also continue participating in the Accelerated Reader program. In language arts, we will continue to build grammar, spelling, and writing skills.
In Science, fifth graders explore all three areas of of science: life science, physical science, and earth science. We will explore Ohio wildlife and also have several hands-on and engaging activities in the classroom. As part of our Health instruction, Officer Don Poney from the Strongsville PD comes in to run a D.A.R.E. class which is interesting and informative.
Religion class includes an in-depth study of the Old Testament, the Ten Commandments, the Sacraments, gifts of the Holy Spirit, and more. In fifth grade, there are also opportunities for service around the school and in our community.
Fifth grade culminates with the Ohio Trip or Lutheran Memorial Camp in May.
